What you are buying

Folding the whole frontage back turns four metres of glass into four metres of open trading space. Popular with cafes and bars that want pavement seating to read as part of the room.

Work in a trading unit has to fit around trading. Where the frontage cannot be out of action during opening hours, installation is booked overnight or on a closed day and the premises left secure at every stage.

If the unit is leased, check the lease before you commit — some landlords require the frontage to match the rest of the parade, and that is easier to design in than retrofit.

If you already have drawings or a specification, send those over and we will price directly from them.

Common questions

What colours can I have?

Any RAL colour on aluminium and steel. Anthracite grey (RAL 7016) and black (RAL 9005) are the most common on high-street units, but the powder coater will match whatever your brand standard specifies.

Can you match the units either side of me?

On a parade where the landlord requires a consistent frontage, we work from the same section profiles and colour reference so the new unit reads as part of the row.

Do I need planning permission?

For a like-for-like replacement, usually not. You will need consent for a listed building, in a conservation area, or where you change the appearance of the frontage or add illuminated signage. We can tell you which applies at survey, though the application itself is between you and the council.

Can you work outside trading hours?

Yes. Overnight and closed-day installation is normal for units that cannot lose a trading day, and the premises are left secure at every stage of the work.

Do you replace just the glass?

Yes. Shopfront glass must be toughened or laminated and kitemarked in a critical location, so panes are ordered to the surveyed size — which means a same-day swap is rarely possible on anything large. Boarding secures the opening in the meantime.
